Tables are turning people. Indian stars are going to Pakistan to do movies. What the governments haven’t been able to do, the film industry is doing the job. They are building the bridges over troubled water and the latest is Nausheen Ali from Kkusum who will star in some Pakistani movie with some of their hero dudes. Yay. The poor chic has literally crossed borders to get some attention, hasn’t she? The world does it, why shouldn’t she?
The Bigg Boss chose Rahul Roy. After so many days of torture (more for the audience than the inmates) the winner finally emerged beating a good lot; amongst the last few being Carol Gracias and Ravi Kissen. The rest aren’t any big names either, just the normal jobless lot. But big news, the show was. So many harsh realities folded out, people’s true colours were displayed their habits (good and bad, or just all bad) and more. Rakhi Sawant took the biggest piece of the limelight with Mika helping her leave the show conveniently. The poor chic tried to cover the embarrassment by looking all clueless on who he was (teaching lessons, she must take).
It finally happened, The King Khan has come back to his roots. Paying his respects to THE medium that has made him what he is today, Shah Rukh Khan started his second innings on the not-so-idiot box. For those of you who were still clocking in the Saas-Bahu sagas and didn’t catch the first episode of SRK’s KBC3, they didn’t miss too much. On the onset of the show, SRK made it clear that he would no longer “lock” the answers but “freeze” them. And another glaring dig that he made was, that no one should expect him to speak in “shudhh Hindi bhasha”. Adding a bit of zing to an ordinary quiz show is no small feat. When Amitabh Bachchan was at the helm of the show, he added dignity and class to the show. To be fair to him, SRK made an honest attempt and has kind of pulled it off.

Shahrukh Khan is such a woozie. You guys know that he is going to come in to KBC now, don’t you? Apart from changing the sets to red (darker shade of pink, I bet), he is doing a lot of damage on the legendary show that was AB’s baby. He is changing the historic one liner: lock kiya jaye to ‘Freeze it’ and computer ji to ‘Mr Computer’. With that, he will also be using Compaqs as compared with the Lenova brand of computers. The pink firang is changing the whole identity of the show to tell the world that he will be second fiddle to none and especially not to Amitabh Bachchan.

Rani Mukherjee is going to kill mosquitoes and save her family. Really, no kidding! She is going to preach that at least. She is going to be the new face of Goodnight Advanced Acti +. Yeah, that’s the whole name of the new product that Goodnight is launching. It is going to literally stuff poison down the fly’s throat. And we will get to see Rani convince us how easily it will be done. She will be this housewife figure who will be cradling a child on her hip and sitting back to enjoy happily married life. Sweet, don’t you think? After running around in three wheelers catching chocolates and aerated drinks, she has finally settled down to a happy and content life.
And the inevitable took place. The one thing that was a sure shot controversy when Shilpa joined the Big Brother show has finally come out wrapped in crap and in the open. Racism; so harsh that Indian media is brewing their blood to the solid state. She has been called names (dog), criticized for her spicy cooking, pointed out to be snooty and bossy, envied by the female lot over the male lot craving behind her, have had her name forgotten and un pronounceable. All that idea about being the first Indian star to join the show and most likely to win it as well, all in the drain because of a concept that was supposed to have been wiped out sixty years ago by the white lot of the west. Racism.

Television serials have received a lot of limelight in the past few years. So much that, people have taken to it like dope. Cannot classify only women, because I have personally encountered men who prefer watching it to a game of football (never cricket, be ascertained). And the Aishwarya Rai of tele-world is Smriti Irani. After having played ten generations in two years (not even exaggerating) she is planning to come out with her own label. As in her production house will be creating a new television serial, which is going to different. It will not have the common elements of the normal soap operas, but it will be fresh out of the oven, baked to perfection. Her role will be the today’s woman; one who is going to balance tradition and contemporary life style. How cool is that!

Isn’t it just lovh-ley when celebrity couples host a television show? Malaika Arora and Arbaaz Khan are going to host a show on TV where they will be quizmasters. The show is a prelude to the Cricket World Cup to be held in West Indies. Remember the last world cup season? That extremely annoying piece of waste to human flesh that waltzed amongst the men in the show? Mandira Bedi? If this show turns out anything remotely similar to that one, I am personally going to sue the producers for obscene mouth flap! With other more ridiculous cases being dragged to court on the basis of “human interest”, this is also perfectly valid!

Shilpa Shetty is reigning UK, folks. She has got the intense attention and support from a group of people who are very difficult to convince most times. Animal activists in Britain have announced their complete cooperation in voting her best and hoping her to win in the Big Brother show. See what happens when you wear leopard skin and get kinky in fake tiger cages? You get the support of animal activists, that’s what happens! You maybe all confused, so pay attention. You see, Shilpa did a stint for the PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) some time back. A campaign to boycott the circus. No, not Bollywood. The real circus; with them animals, clowns and Russian acrobats.

In the United States of America, one of its popular comedy shows recently surprised a lot of us Indians. The show, The Colbert Report had its anchor, Steven Colbert, bring up a heated topic about the silent cold war between Bachchan and Khan. I mean, he literally took their cases out, giving backgrounds, making jokes, using pun and all that jazz on television. And he is all American. Strange? It is, considering the fact that all Americans care about India and its people are the resources; abundant cheap man power and the kali mirch. Know what even stranger? He mentioned a movie with the two stars in it and also pointed out Bachchan’s non-attendance for Khan’s New Year bash.
Shilpa Shetty may leave the Big Brother Manor. That is if she feels her dignity is at risk. One would wonder what she has been doing there all this while if she cared a rat’s ass about dignity, but we have to overlook that argument. Apparently, she has been having a lot of difficult times in at the manor; the worst problem being a fellow inmate with whom she had a tiff with over pronouncing her name wrongly. What could Shetty have expected? They are a bunch of jobless celebrities and that too from the west. The closest to pronouncing India properly would be if they were drunk and trying to make funny noises with their tongues. And Shilpa is a far cry.
Shilpa Shetty is doing what the West always believed India to be doing on the streets and towns. She is teaching her fellow inmates at the Big Brother show on techniques of chanting "OM" and meditation. She tried teaching Carole Melone and Ken Russell. While her attempts with the former were all right, the latter tried to cough his way out. She tried for one whole day and then realized that since the west were such airheads, they were facing breathing difficulties which in turn makes it difficult for them to concentrate and eventually not meditate. She is probably trying to be Deepak Chopra but she has got her tricks all mixed.
The Income Tax dudes couldn't rip Amitabh Bachchan off of Rs50.92 crores. It's a really long confusing law affair but the jist is that he was asked to cough up so much because of his being an anchor in KBC and after some thought and consideration, they thought of letting him go. Maybe they split the money. Can't take the whole lot now, what with the marriage and all coming (Abhishek with Aishwarya). It had to do with a lot of legal terms and absolute alien language. But we don't really need a degree to understand how most lawyers in India work, do we? This is Amitabh Bachchan we are talking about.
The Kaun Banega Crorepati part two with Shahrukh Khan is finally set for show on January 22, 2007. After the booming success of the initial Amitabh Bachchan series, this one is well anticipated by the masses of India and abroad. Over the months, criticisms, controversies, fights, cold wars, arguments, unseen hatred and more have been flying the air with the two Titans’ possible war of competition. The junior one, Shahrukh has been grabbed under the microscopic eye a billion times by the media (in all its forms) and scrutinized to see if there were any traces of pride floating in him to have over taken the true legend. After so many disappointments and so much waiting, it had finally unveiled its advertisement and given us masses a peak view.
